The new deep water
port: Dakhla Atlantique
The site chosen to house the port of Dakhla Atlantique is that of Ntireft, located 40 km north of the city of Dakhla. It meets both geostrategic objectives, regional development objectives and objectives specific to the fishing sector. Depending on the natural resources to be exploited in the region, Dakhla Atlantique is designed to evolve and offer new possibilities for development. A budget of 6 billion dirhams has been allocated for this future industrial and logistics platform of approximately 1000 ha.
Experimental project on the use of terracotta pots for octopus fishing
This pilot project is part of the accompanying measures and support for the octopus fishing development plan, as well as the sustainability axis of the Halieutis strategy. This project involves the delivery of 3000 terracotta pots to ten fishing boats belonging to the Imtelane cooperative. It aims to work for the sustainability of octopus resources and job creation. It also includes feasibility research on the use of pots made of natural materials, more suited to marine environments, to preserve the natural and ecological environment. This will minimize the negative effects of losing plastic pots.
Development of fishing villages
Within the framework of the maritime sector policy, and to promote and organize fishing operations, those responsible for maritime fishing have outlined a development programme. This thanks to the recognition along the coast of several landing points equipped for fishing villages. This large-scale program is an opportunity to lay the foundations for a coastal development policy. It will be based on the creation of a new regional development zone for the socio-economic improvement of fishermen.
Creation of a competitive pole for seafood products
Through the creation of an industrial zone, the region has planned to create a competitiveness cluster for seafood products in Dakhla. This area will mainly be around small pelagics, in addition to port infrastructure. This area of activity should accommodate ten small pelagic recovery units and generate 6500 jobs.
